A sweet treat for your skin

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Known as madhu in Sanskrit, honey has been described in detail in all ayurvedic texts. This golden liquid, which is nature’s purest and sweetest food, also has many uses for clear, glowing skin.

Honey as a beauty aid

Cleanser: Pour 1 tsp of honey into the palm of your hand. Add some milk powder and mix well. Apply on your face as your daily cleanser.

Scrub: Mix 1 tsp of honey and a little almond flour. Massage into your skin as a gentle facial scrub.

Moisture mask: For dry or mature skin, mix 2 tbsp of honey with 1 tsp of milk. Apply on the face and rinse with warm water after 10 minutes.

Conditioning face pack: Mix 1 tbsp of honey, 1 egg white, 1 tsp of glycerine and flour to make a quarter cup of paste. Apply on your face and throat. Rinse after 10 minutes.

Smoothing Skin Lotion: Mix 1-teaspoon honey with 1-teaspoon vegetable oil and ¼ teaspoon lemon juice. Rub into hands, elbows, heels, anywhere that feels dry. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with water.

For cosmetic problems

Acne: Mix 3 tbsp of honey and 1 tsp of cinnamon powder. Apply this paste on pimples before sleeping and rinse it the next morning. If done daily for two weeks, it removes acne.

Dull complexion: A face mask made of honey, turmeric, and gram flour is refreshing and proves effective when applied for 15-20 minutes.

Burns: To heal burns, mix honey with turmeric powder and apply the paste on the burned area.

Cracked Lips: Apply ½ tsp fresh milk cream with 1/4 tsp honey and 2 drops of rose water on your lips
